Choosing a Pediatrician
Congratulations on your exciting news, and thank you for visiting The Carithers Pediatric Group’s website!
Having a baby is one of the most rewarding experiences in your life. At Carithers Pediatrics we are committed to keeping your baby happy and healthy. Our family of pediatricians and nurse practitioners provides the quality of care your child needs and the advice and counsel you want. We would be honored to welcome your family into The Carithers Pediatric Group.
Due to public health concerns surrounding the Coronavirus pandemic, we have temporarily canceled our monthly Expecting Parents Class. In its place, we have created pre-delivery appointments to meet the needs of expecting parents in our community. These appointments will be held at our Point Meadows office only. Telehealth options are available as well. To schedule your pre-delivery appointment, please call 904-997-0023. Though pre-delivery visits are highly recommended, they are not required for your child to become a patient at Carithers Pediatrics.
Things for Expectant Parents to Consider
When you go to the hospital on delivery day, the hospital staff will ask you who you’ve chosen as your pediatrician; let them know you have selected our group. If you deliver at one of the four hospitals where our pediatricians round in the newborn nurseries, we will visit you and your new baby within the first 24 hours of life. Even if you deliver elsewhere, we will gladly accept your child as a patient.
In accordance with the recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatrics, we like to have your baby’s first check-up about 2 to 3 days after you get home from the hospital. This visit is crucial for the evaluation of feeding progress, hydration, and management of expected weight loss. Most parents find this visit to be a reassuring one for all.
For newborns, you have thirty days to enroll your child under your health insurance policy.
Please feel free to contact us at (904) 387-6200 with any questions. We look forward to welcoming you as part of our practice!
